Mekong Delta localities and Thanh Hoa province join hands to promote tourism cooperation

On the afternoon of November 16th, Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee coordinated with Can Tho city People's Committee to organize a conference on tourism promotion and linkage between Thanh Hoa Province and the Mekong Delta provinces and cities. Conference attendees were Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) Ha Van Sieu, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien, Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thanh Hoa Province Nguyen Van Thi, and leaders of the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, enterprises of the provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.
Representatives of Thanh Hoa Tourism Association and Can Tho municipal Tourism Association signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism promotion and linkage between Thanh Hoa Province and the Mekong Delta localities.

The event aims to promote and introduce the tourism potential of Thanh Hoa province and Mekong Delta localities. It is also an opportunity for localities, investors, and enterprises from both sides to exchange, share experiences, and mutually find ways to remove barriers.

Thanh Hoa province ranks fifth in the country in the field of area, the third in the field of population with 3.71 million people. Besides, the locality has a 192-kilometer-long borderline and a 102-kilometer-long coastal line, diverse natural resources with 1,535 monuments and landmarks. Specifically, Thanh Hoa province has 6 special national-ranked relics, including Ho Dynasty Citadel, Lam Kinh relic, King Le Hoan Temple, Ba Trieu Temple, Con Moong Cave. In particular, the Ho Dynasty Citadel is recognized as a world cultural heritage. Thanh Hoa also has many beautiful beaches such as Sam Son, Hai Tien, Hai Hoa. Besides, Thanh Hoa owns many famous landscapes such as Ben En National Park, Pu Luong Nature Reserve, God Fish Stream in Cam Luong, Ham Rong - Ma River, etc. Moreover, there are many interesting folk games, special cultural festivals such as Xuan Pha game, Pon Poong dance, Dong Anh folk music, and dance area, Lam Kinh festival, and so on. Thanh Hoa's cuisine is unique with many diverse and attractive dishes and products such as Tu Tru gai cake, fermented pork rolls, nhech salad of Nga Son, Cau Sai porridge, grilled shrimp rolls, and the like. In addition, Thanh Hoa province converges the cultural space of 7 ethnic groups with unique traditional cultural values. All have become valuable “fragrances”, “colors”, and “materials” so that Thanh Hoa province can develop four-season tourism, with the main tourist product lines being sea tourism, cultural-historical-spiritual tourism, and community ecotourism, and many other complementary tourism products such as adventure tourism, shopping tourism, agricultural tourism... The locality has 925 accommodation facilities, providing over 40,000 rooms which would meet the diverse tourism demand of travelers. More importantly, the operation of the Thanh Hoa - Can Tho route from April 2019, with a frequency of 3 flights/week, has served thousands of tourists from Thanh Hoa to the Mekong Delta localities and vice versa; thereby, contributing to enhancing connectivity, trade, tourism and promoting socio-economic development of Thanh Hoa and the Mekong Delta localities.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thi, Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thanh Hoa Province, said that the 13 provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta are one of the most potential areas in the field of tourism, capable of attracting a large number of tourists to Thanh Hoa. Thanh Hoa province has recently focused on tourism cooperation and linkage with the Mekong Delta region in recent years through several tourism promotion events, such as seminars on cooperation, association, and exchange of experiences in tourism development between An Giang province and the provinces in the western cluster of the Mekong Delta with Thanh Hoa province in 2018; Vietnam - Can Tho International Tourism Fair in 2019… These events prove to be beneficial to both sides.

The North-Central province’s leader stated that with original tourism products of localities, the promotion of linkage and development between Thanh Hoa Province and the Mekong Delta region would create more attractive and new tours and would be a great chance to exchange travelers and promote domestic tourism development. Therefore, Standing Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Thi expressed his wish that the Mekong Delta localities would cooperate with Thanh Hoa province to create favorable conditions for tourist agencies, businesses, and tourists from both sides.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of Can Tho city Nguyen Thuc Hien said that the conference was an opportunity for localities, investors, and enterprises to exchange, share experiences, and mutually find ways to remove barriers; therefore, strengthening the mutual cooperation, tourism development and tours connection between the Mekong Delta region and Thanh Hoa Province and vice versa, contributing to strongly exploiting and developing tourism in localities. Vice Chairman of Can Tho city Nguyen Thuc Hien said that Can Tho city would create favorable conditions for investors, enterprises, and tourists from Thanh Hoa to connect tourist sources between Can Tho city and localities in the Mekong Delta with Thanh Hoa province and other provinces in the North Central region.
