At the reception, Cambodian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Sok Dareth thanked the city’s leaders for the warm welcome and expressed his pleasure to attend the meeting to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations (June 24th, 1967 - June 24th, 2022). He spoke highly of the close ties between the two countries through difficult periods of history and expressed his delight at the growing bilateral ties. Both countries have made positive contributions to the building of peace and prosperity in the international community, especially the ASEAN Community in which both countries are members.

Cambodian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Sok Dareth hopes youngsters of both countries will get closer together for deeper mutual understanding while staying ready to pioneer in implementing historical missions, safeguarding, and developing relations between the two countries.

Cambodian Consul General Sok Dareth wishes to cooperate with Can Tho city to build a forum to promote economy and trade between Can Tho City and Cambodia; at the same time, creating an environment for businesses of the two countries to exchange and sign cooperation in many fields, especially tourism.

Cambodian Consul General Sok Dareth also believed that the 55th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations will promote and deepen the partnership between the two countries in general and between the Cambodian Consulate General and Can Tho as well as the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in the city in particular.

In response to the Consul General of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City Sok Dareth, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho city, said that Can Tho city has attached great importance to the traditional friendship and solidarity with Cambodian friends. Moreover, Can Tho city is very interested in building close relationships and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodian localities.

Can Tho city has supported and coordinated with the Cambodian side to organize many cultural and people-to-people exchange activities together with charity activities, such as annually celebrating Chol Chnam Thmay, supporting Cambodian students, providing free medical check-ups and medicines to locals in Cambodia, and Vietnamese Cambodian people hit by COVID-19, etc. These activities show the concern and care of the Vietnamese Party Committee, government, and armed forces for the Khmer ethnic group and Cambodian people living and studying in the city, contributing to the strengthening of national solidarity and friendly relations with Cambodia.

In the coming time, Vice Chairman Nguyen Thuc Hien wanted Cambodian Consul General Sok Dareth to support in promoting the image, potential, and strengths of Can Tho city to Cambodian investors and businesses in the fields of high-tech agriculture, culture, education, medical care..., thereby contributing to promoting the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam - Cambodia in general and Can Tho - Cambodian localities in particular.
