The Conference has the presence of Cambodian Consul General SOK Dareth; Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho city Nguyen Thuc Hien; representatives of departments, and agencies in Can Tho city; businesses from both Can Tho and Cambodia.

Vietnam is currently the third largest trade partner of Cambodia. Regarding investment cooperation, so far Cambodia has 27 valid projects with a total registered capital of about 69.12 million USD. At the same time, Cambodia ranked second among 79 countries and territories receiving Vietnam's overseas investment. Currently, one enterprise from Can Tho is operating in Cambodia, while there is yet to have any from the nation investing in the city.

According to the Department of foreign affairs, in the first 11 months of 2022, the city exported more than 37 million USD of goods, mainly agro-fishery products, medicine, and steel, to Cambodia; and spent nearly 0.6 million USD on importing Cambodian products, mostly medicinal materials.

Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho city Nguyen Thuc Hien said that the conference on Vietnam-Cambodia trade and investment cooperation aims to connect the businesses in Can Tho city and Cambodia. Moreover, the two sides will update information on potential, advantages, investment opportunities, policies, and orientations to attract investment in Can Tho city; at the same time, create favorable conditions for businesses from Can Tho city to learn and invest in key economic regions of Cambodia, and promote trade relations between the two sides.

Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho city Nguyen Thuc Hien hoped that the Conference will serve as a premise to create connections, exchanges, and promote investment and trade cooperation between businesses of the two countries in the coming time; at the same time, make an important contribution to the success of the “Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Year 2022”.

Cambodian Consul General Sok Dareth said that Can Tho city has a crucial position in the Mekong Delta as it is an important urban center, a hub for domestic and international trade, with great potential including ports, international airports, rich natural resources, convenient irrigation systems for agricultural development. Moreover, this city is also suitable for green tourism which can attract a lot of tourists.

Cambodian Consul General Sok Dareth said Cambodia guarantees all investors and entrepreneurs a favorable environment and warmly welcomes those from Vietnam. He also called on Vietnamese investors to increase their business-investment activities in his nation, particularly regarding high-tech agriculture, food processing industry, and light industry.

The diplomat suggested they seize opportunities for investment in Cambodia and set up joint ventures with their Cambodian peers to capitalize on the countries’ bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

At the conference, businesses and investors from the sides met, exchanged, and introduced products to each other to seek opportunities to form links and expand their markets, especially in the fields of construction, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, food processing industry, and light industry. In addition, they also made suggestions to contribute to the development of Vietnam - Cambodia relations in general, and Cambodia - Can Tho city in particular, thus bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries.
