Speaking at the commemorative meeting, Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, reviewed the glorious historical traditions of the nation and expressed endless gratitude and appreciation for the great contributions of the revolutionary predecessors; grateful to the courageous sacrifices of compatriots who fought for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland; grateful for the boundless sacrifices of the heroic Vietnamese mothers, intelligence forces, logistics forces, veterans, wounded soldiers, families of martyrs, families with revolutionary contributions, youth vanguard forces, volunteers, compatriots, soldiers nationwide, and the people of Can Tho province and Can Tho city who are determined to achieve national independence, reunification, for the survival of the nation, for the life and happiness of the people.

After 49 years of construction and development, the Party organization, government, people, and army of Can Tho continue to promote the tradition of unity, dynamism, creativity, and strive to overcome difficulties, set forth many specific plans and solutions, suitable to the practical situation, and have achieved many important and comprehensive results in various fields, creating momentum for the rapid and sustainable development of Can Tho city.

The scale of the city's economy has gradually expanded; all sectors and fields of the economy have developed, social resources continue to be exploited, affirming the role as a center of commerce, services, import-export, logistics, high-tech agriculture production... of the Mekong Delta region and the whole country. The economic structure is shifting towards increasing the proportion of services and industry. Agricultural production is gradually shifting towards high-tech agriculture, urban agriculture, and "clean" agriculture. The investment and business environment has improved along with the promotion of administrative procedure reform, which has stimulated the diverse development of economic zones and attracted many sources of investment for development. International cooperation and regional linkage are being promoted. Culture and society have achieved many positive results; defense and security are maintained, social order and safety are ensured; Party building and government construction have been strengthened, bringing about strong transformations and significant results. The political system is increasingly effective and efficient.

Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, Tran Viet Truong, stated that 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Can Tho City under the Central Government. It is the year when the Party organization, government, army, and people of the city are determined to fulfill the objectives and tasks of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the Resolution of the 14th City Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term, Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW dated August 5, 2020, by the Politburo on building and developing Can Tho City until 2030, with a vision to 2045, and other related resolutions to provide a foundation for summarizing and evaluating the results of implementing the resolutions, leading to the 15th City Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term.

Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, awarded Party badges to senior Party members. 

To continue promoting the achievements, Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, proposed that in the coming time, the Party organization, government, army, and people of Can Tho City should accelerate the economic structural transformation and innovation of the growth model, enhance the application of science and technology, information technology, promote innovation, digital transformation, and develop a digital economy. Focus on rapidly developing the workforce, especially high-quality human resources, attracting talents to serve the development process; continue to implement Directive No. 05-CT/TW dated May 5, 2016, by the Politburo on promoting studying and following the ideology, morality, and style of Ho Chi Minh; improve the cultural life of the people, build Can Tho people as "Intellectual - Dynamic - Compassionate - Heroic - Elegant"; actively integrate internationally, enhance the effectiveness of foreign affairs, contribute to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, and attract external resources for the development of the city to become a center of the Mekong Delta region in line with the spirit of Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW by the Politburo on building and developing Can Tho City until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee awarded the First-Class Labor Medal to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dong, Deputy Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Council; awarded the Third-Class Labor Medal to Major General Vu Cao Quan, a member of the Board of Directors of Hoa Hao - Medic Can Tho General Hospital; and awarded Party badges to senior Party members.
