Can Tho leaders hold a dialogue with trade union officials and workers in 2024

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Alternate Member of the Central Party Executive Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, requested agencies, departments, and organizations to actively promote and care for the workforce at the Dialogue Program between the Can Tho leaders and workers in 2024, organized by the Labor Confederation of Can Tho City on May 14 at the Can Tho City Party Committee.

The dialogue between Can Tho leaders and trade union officials, and workers in 2024 is a meaningful event responding to the “Workers’ Month” in 2024.

The event had the participation of Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Alternate Member of the Central Party Executive Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee; Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Deputy Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee and Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Member of Can Tho City Party Standing Committee and Chairman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hai, Member of the Standing Committee of Can Tho City Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Council; representatives of departments, agencies, unions as well as 200 union officials and workers representing 84,000 trade unionists and workers of Can Tho City.

Chairman Tran Viet Truong said there are nearly 56,000 workers in industrial parks. This workforce has significantly contributed to the city's socio-economic development. However, some laborers are facing difficulties, including issues related to wages, income, job opportunities, housing, working conditions, recreational facilities, childcare, education for their children, and labor safety. Can Tho authorities and trade unions at all levels are actively addressing these challenges.

At the conference, representatives of trade unions, and workers spoke out their opinions and discussed a number of issues. Some of the topics included solutions to enhance workers' skills; addressing businesses that fail to pay social insurance, impacting employees' rights; policies to help low-income workers access social housing; electricity and water price management for workers in boarding houses to ensure consistency and compliance with set prices; supporting businesses to prevent reduced working hours, layoffs, or rotational leave for employees; establishing playgrounds and cultural activities to meet workers' needs; policies aimed at retaining and attracting competent and qualified civil servants, public employees, and workers to meet job requirements.

Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu, expressed gratitude to the city's trade unionists, civil servants, public employees, and workers for their hard work and contribution to the city's socio-economic development.

The official has requested leaders of relevant departments and agencies to provide specific solutions and action plans to better care for unionists, civil servants, and workers and solve their problems. Can Tho authorities at all levels and Can Tho Labor Confederation strengthen their supervision of implementing these plans. For example, the issue of social housing is a pressing concern among workers, including civil servants, that needs to be resolved soon.

Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu stated that one of the major development orientations of the city today is to continue to effectively implement administrative reform to support businesses and to focus on implementing key projects to improve the material and spiritual lives of the people. At the same time, it is affirmed that one of the important components contributing to this development is the workforce.

He asked Can Tho authorities at all levels to continue monitoring, inspecting, supervising, and urging the implementation of regulations to ensure workers' rights. Additionally, there should be a focus on improving workers' skills and creating job opportunities locally, as well as strengthening programs for sending workers to work abroad.

At the event, the Labor Confederation of Can Tho City presented 30 gifts to workers, civil servants, and public employees facing difficult circumstances.
