Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Viet Truong spoke at the meeting

Can Tho City has recently engaged in comprehensive cooperation activities across various fields with localities, and units throughout the country. This has led to numerous positive outcomes, contributing to the development of Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta region. Notably, there have been bilateral and multilateral cooperation initiatives between Can Tho City and Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta localities, Quang Ninh province, as well as prominent centers, institutes, and universities nationwide. This collaboration includes Can Tho University and Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Moreover, Can Tho City has promoted resources contributing to its socio-economic development through association and cooperation. This includes strengthening economic development, expanding markets, attracting investment, and developing transportation and logistics systems. The city is also taking advantage of resources to speed up implementation progress and maximize the benefits of expressways passing through the area. In addition, it aims to improve its competitiveness through cooperation, learning from successful models, applying science and technology, and participating in the global value chain. Joint and cooperative activities with provinces, cities, and units throughout the country are being pursued to address issues related to climate change, environment, security, and human resources quality. These efforts also seek to preserve and promote cultural and heritage values, create conditions for tourism development, and improve the education, healthcare, and social security systems, thus contributing to the material and spiritual well-being of the people. Ultimately, these actions serve to promote international integration and enhance the city's position.

At the meeting

Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Viet Truong emphasized the need to acknowledge the abundant opportunities for development and the effective implementation of the signed Memorandum of Understanding. He also noted that numerous localities and units with potential and strengths aligned with Can Tho City's development strategy are prepared to engage in cooperation. However, the process of connection and implementation is progressing slowly. Many collaboration efforts have been ineffective and failed to yield the desired results. The official stressed that collaboration should match the city's development goals outlined in central resolutions. Having a clear strategy and direction and identifying key industries and priority areas is important. It's essential to prioritize linking with provinces, cities, and units that share consistent development goals with Can Tho. Collaboration should emphasize substantive, practical, and effective coordination, and promote tangible outcomes. Efforts should not be merely formal, but meaningful and in-depth.

Chairman Tran Viet Truong emphasized the importance of collaboration and partnership for the city's socio-economic development. Therefore, departments and agencies should prioritize providing recommendations and suggestions to enhance collaboration and partnership activities in areas of strength. They should also study models and solutions in areas where the city faces limitations, and work towards achieving socio-economic development goals aligned with the successful implementation of Central resolutions. This will help the city assert its position and role as a Central city of the Mekong Delta region.

The official instructed that regular communication with partners is crucial after signing agreements, and a focal agency should be designated to coordinate and provide support when necessary. It is important to conduct preliminary and final reviews to gain insights from experience, set the direction for each stage of collaboration, and address any challenges that may arise during the implementation process. If it is found that the agreed-upon terms are no longer suitable for the current conditions, timely reporting and appropriate actions should be taken.

Chairman Tran Viet Truong requested departments, agencies, and localities to take proactive steps to develop and implement plans outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation. It is essential to consistently and actively engage with government partners. The plan for association and cooperation needs to be specific, clearly defining the content, interests of relevant parties, implementation timeline, and necessary resources. This will facilitate the establishment of a mutually beneficial relationship and create motivation to promote the development of interconnected partnerships.
