The conference was attended by Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee; leaders of departments, agencies of the city, and leaders of Can Tho University.

Over the past 4 years, the cooperation between the city government and Can Tho University has achieved positive results in various fields such as agriculture and rural development, science and technology, education and training, culture and arts. This contribution has positively impacted the overall development of the Mekong Delta region in general and Can Tho City in particular.

One notable area of collaboration is science and technology. Can Tho City has allocated 15 billion VND for scientific tasks over the past 4 years. Meanwhile, Can Tho University has sought additional funding from international cooperation, programs, and projects of the state budget from central ministries, amounting to 48.5 billion VND for research in Can Tho City.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Rector of Can Tho University, expressed the university's desire to receive suggestions or orders for training human resources from the local government of Can Tho City.

However, according to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, while the collaborative activities between Can Tho University and the city government have been encouraging, they have not yet met the desired expectations and hopes of both parties.

Regarding the cooperation in training human resources for Can Tho City in the near future, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh stated that Can Tho University is eager to receive suggestions or orders from the local government, especially from the Department of Planning and Investment, regarding the future human resource needs that the city needs to attract, particularly in the industrial sector. Based on that, the university can proactively plan enrollment and training so that the human resources will be available in 4 years.

The Rector of Can Tho University emphasized that without this pool of human resources, it would be difficult for the city to attract investors. For example, in about 4-5 years, when the VSIP Can Tho Industrial Park is expected to become operational, it is projected that there will be a demand for a certain number of engineers. In order for the universities to proactively plan their enrollment, it is necessary to have a workforce that can meet the city's needs in the next 4 years.

In his speech at the conference, Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, stated that Can Tho City and Can Tho University have a long-standing and close relationship in the process of building and developing the city. The university plays a significant role in training and improving the quality of human resources for the city's officials and civil servants. Currently, about 30% of the city's officials and civil servants have studied and graduated from the university. Through its activities, the university has made many proposals and recommendations to overcome the difficulties and challenges facing the city, such as addressing the demand for high-quality human resources, the relationship between economic development and climate change adaptation, efficient resource utilization, and environmental protection, the issue of rapid and sustainable development in the city's economic development.... The university also provides feedback and criticism on policy development, projects, scientific research, and contributes to the successful implementation of many city policies.

To further develop comprehensive cooperation between the People's Committee of Can Tho City and Can Tho University, Mr. Tran Viet Truong believes that both parties should continue to implement, build, and develop strategic cooperation agreements that leverage the roles, potentials, and strengths of the city and the university to meet the development trends and actively integrate.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City requested that Can Tho University pay more attention to training, scientific research, and technology transfer to create a workforce with expertise and mastery of technology, meeting the developmental requirements of the city, especially in industrial sectors, high-tech agriculture, and logistics services.

In addition, it is important to enhance scientific research, innovation, and focus on researching and applying the latest technologies to address issues in the city such as effective resource management, ecological environmental protection, and positioning Can Tho City as a center for climate change adaptation in the Mekong Delta region.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City also expressed expectations that Can Tho University, with its highly qualified faculty and staff, would continue to actively contribute suggestions, advice, and recommendations towards the goal of building and developing the city, particularly in the field of socio-economic development. He also urged each department and agency to proactively develop cooperation plans with the faculties and departments of Can Tho University based on the proposed cooperation content, in order to realize the objectives and leverage the potentials and strengths for the economic and social development of the city.

The leadership of Can Tho City committed to continue creating favorable conditions for the development of Can Tho University, supporting and facilitating the research, study, and participation of the university's faculty, students in entrepreneurial activities and innovation.
