On the morning of May 3rd, in accordance with the progress of the topic "Research and Compilation of the Can Tho Chorography: Can Tho Culture," the Can Tho Cultural Book Management Board organized the first scientific workshop on the theme "Compilation Regulations and Detailed Outline of the Can Tho Cultural Book Draft." The workshop aims to gather additional information, materials, and contributions from scientists, researchers, and relevant state management agencies regarding the content of the Can Tho Cultural Book, in order to supplement and complete the compilation regulations and detailed outline of the Can Tho Cultural Book draft.

The Can Tho Chorography is a specialized scientific research work aimed at recording and introducing the geography, history of formation and development, traditions, socio-economic aspects, defense and security, culture and arts, ethnic groups, religions, landmarks, landscapes, and prominent historical figures, with the goal of providing a basis for policy planning, serving as educational material, research, reference, preservation, and promotion of the position and role of Can Tho City as the dynamic center of the Mekong Delta region. The Management Board for the Compilation of the Can Tho Chorography identifies this as a project to celebrate the 15th Congress of the Can Tho City Party Committee, term 2025-2030.

Accordingly, the Can Tho Chorography consists of 3 volumes, implemented as part of the scientific research topic: Volume 1 - Geography and History of Can Tho; Volume 2 - Economy and Society of Can Tho; Volume 3 - Culture of Can Tho. It is expected that the series will be completed by the end of 2024 and published in January 2025.

The Can Tho Cultural Book is an integral part of the overall Can Tho Chorography project, with its content encompassing an overview of culture, material culture (cuisine, clothing, housing, transportation, architectural heritage), spiritual culture (religion, beliefs, rituals, customs and festivals, literature, arts, dialects, and Han-Nom heritage), and social culture (agricultural and fishing tools and craft villages, journalism, media, and publishing), with a relatively independent nature between the volumes.

Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho People's Committee, stated that the Can Tho Cultural Book is an important part of the overall Can Tho Chorography project, comprising a total of 30 chapters. This valuable source of information contributes to the development of science, education, and the enhancement of civic knowledge. It serves the planning of socio-economic, cultural, educational, and defense-security policies of Can Tho City, aiming to guide the high material and spiritual living standards of its people by 2030. By 2045, Can Tho is envisioned to be among the well-developed cities in Asia, in accordance with Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW, dated August 5th, 2020, of the Politburo (12th term) on "Building and Developing Can Tho City towards 2030, with a Vision to 2045."

At the workshop, the Organizing Committee received evaluations, analyses, and proposals from scientists and researchers regarding the content of the Compilation Regulations and Detailed Outline of the Can Tho Cultural Book. Specifically, they applied the Compilation Standards of the National Chorography of Vietnam to study and compile the Can Tho Cultural Book; drew lessons from the Compilation Regulations of the Ben Tre Chorography in terms of local chorography; established standards for compiling the Can Tho Cultural Book; proposed solutions to implement the research and compilation project of the Can Tho Chorography: Can Tho Culture; provided feedback and additions to the draft Compilation Regulations and Detailed Outline of the Can Tho Cultural Book. Based on these inputs, the Organizing Committee will synthesize the workshop's findings and continue to study, supplement, and complete the Compilation Regulations and Detailed Outline of the Can Tho Cultural Book to serve the completion of the objectives and tasks of compiling the Can Tho Chorography.
