Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu received the Consulate-General of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City Pang Te Cheng on July 10 in Can Tho City.

The meeting had the presence of Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien, and representatives of relevant departments and agencies in Can Tho City.

At the reception, Mr. Pang Te Cheng, Consulate-General of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City, expressed his gratitude to the Can Tho authorities for supporting Singaporean businesses over the years. The diplomat specifically showed keen interest in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) project and expressed his desire to strengthen the relationship between Singapore and Can Tho City in the coming time, particularly in the field of education and training.

Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu congratulated the Consulate-General of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City Pang Te Cheng on his new tenure in Vietnam and expressed appreciation for the cooperation between Can Tho City and Singapore, especially highlighting the VSIP Can Tho project. Can Tho authorities highly value the coordination in implementing important aspects of this project.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu mentioned that the VSIP Can Tho project phase 1 covers an area of about 300 hectares and is one of the industrial parks being developed rapidly in Can Tho City. Can Tho authorities have actively assisted VSIP Group in carrying out land compensation and site clearance, reaching about 90%. Currently, the city is investing in building two roads leading into the industrial park and deploying secondary transportation connections. However, the project is facing difficulties due to a lack of sand for leveling the site - a common challenge for the entire Mekong Delta region.

The official stressed the need for businesses involved in the VSIP project to expedite the process of finding alternative sources for leveling to operationalize the industrial park soon. The city aims to hand over cleared land to investors by the first quarter of 2025 in collaboration with VSIP Group.

Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu presented a gift to the Consulate-General of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City Pang Te Cheng at the reception.

Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu expressed the city's commitment to the development of the VSIP Can Tho project as part of its overall development plan. Therefore, Can Tho authorities will provide maximum support to soon put the industrial park into operation, thus contributing significantly to the city's socio-economic development and structural transformation. Furthermore, the city plans to allocate a land fund of about 600 hectares, doubling the current project, to facilitate the implementation of phase 2 of VSIP, aiming to establish it as a regional center for processing and manufacturing industries.

In addition to the industrial parks, Can Tho leaders have shown interest in collaborating with Singaporean businesses in various sectors such as education and training, healthcare, advanced technology, logistics, and high-tech agriculture. This collaboration aims to leverage the strengths and potentials of both sides for mutual benefit.
