The meeting had the participation of Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Alternate Member of the Central Party Executive Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee; Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Deputy Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee and Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc He, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee and leaders of relevant departments and agencies in Can Tho City.

At the reception, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu was delighted to welcome the Indonesian delegation to Can Tho City. Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu briefed the guest about the city's strengths such as quality rice, fruit, and fisheries production, along with research establishments like the Mekong Delta Rice Institute and Can Tho University specializing in rice and plant variety research and supply.

Moreover, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu reported that Can Tho earned 16.19 million USD from exports to Indonesia in the first quarter of 2024. The city's primary exports were rice, farm produce, and processed agricultural products. Currently, Indonesia is implementing a project with a registered investment of over 10 million USD in Can Tho City.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu stated that Can Tho City is focusing on agricultural development with the aim of increasing added value. Can Tho City is involved in the “Sustainable Development of One Million Hectares of High Quality and Low-Emission Rice Associated with Green Growth in The Mekong River Delta By 2030” program, which involves the reorganization of the production system along the rice value chain, the adoption of sustainable farming practices to enhance production and economic efficiency, and the improvement of income and livelihoods for farmers. Additionally, it aims to adapt to climate change, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and contribute to fulfilling Vietnam’s international mitigation commitments, including achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Currently, Can Tho City has approximately 50,000 hectares.

Can Tho is encouraging local businesses to expand the export of their agricultural products to Halal markets, including Indonesia. In addition to rice products, the city expects to export other agricultural products such as fruits and seafood to Indonesia, Hieu said.

Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu expressed his hope that the Indonesian Minister of Agriculture's visit to Can Tho City will lead to numerous opportunities for cooperation across various fields, aligning with the potential and strengths of both sides. He also wished for an increasing number of Indonesian investors to visit Can Tho and explore collaboration and investment opportunities in the city. Can Tho authorities are dedicated to providing favorable conditions for Indonesian investors interested in Can Tho.

Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman expressed his gratitude to the leaders of Can Tho City for their warm welcome. He said Vietnam and Indonesia boast many areas for cooperation in the future, particularly in agricultural research and food supply.

Through his visit to Can Tho City, Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman hopes for further cooperation with Can Tho City in rice exports and technology in the agricultural sector to increase rice supply in the Southeast Asian region as Can Tho has advantages on agricultural development, including rice export.
