Green Season of Son Islet
Date: 03/07/2024

Summer is the time when the orchards are full of fruits, contributing to creating an ideal space for many fun activities of families and children. Welcoming the summer tourism season, Son Islet (Binh Thuy district, Can Tho City) launched the journey “Green Season of Son Islet” itinerary with “green” products and many experiences for young tourists.
Many young tourists enjoy the fish massage experience at Son Islet.

Following local tour guide Ms. Le Thi Hong Diem, a member of Son Islet Agricultural Tourism Cooperative, the group of young tourists had an interesting summer experience at Son Islet. With the desire to introduce the green journey associated with the lifestyle of the people of the dunes, “Green Season of Son Islet” creates a highlight with a series of experiences about learning about orchards and raising aquaculture products on rafts in the middle of the Hau River.

The journey brings young tourists to meet and interact with Mr. Ly Van Bon, owner of Bay Bon fish raft - at the gateway to Son Islet, an old farmer who has been involved in fish farming on the Hau River for more than 20 years. Here, Uncle Bay Bon and the local tour guide introduce the life cycle and characteristics of each fish species, as well as the process of preserving freshwater fish species in the river. Le Ngoc Bao Tien (13 years old), said: “My friends and I had very fun and interesting experiences at Mr. Bay Bon’s fish raft. Here, we were introduced and understood more about fish species and knew the characteristics of some types of fish on the Hau River. The fish here are very friendly. Especially, the fish massage experience is very fun because we can touch each fish”. The impression of Bao Tien is that the natural fish farming area here is well fed and cared for, although they still live in natural conditions, they can return to the big river at any time, contributing to conservation activities of fish species. “For us, a summer experience like this is very useful because we can both have fun and learn more knowledge”, added Bao Tien.

In the summer, Son Islet becomes attractive with fruitful orchards. Bunches of red rambutans hang heavy on the branches, and longan fruits linger on the trees. Young tourists are also excited to visit the garden, pick ripe fruits, and enjoy them on the spot. Nguyen Tran Thien Phu (13 years old), happily said: “Today I have many experiences with my friends, but the most impressive one is the longan garden. The space here is green, the trees are very fruitful and you can personally pick fresh bunches of longan to eat on the spot. Longan rice is thick, very fragrant and sweet. For me, this is a useful journey because it helps us get closer to nature”.

Ms. Le Thi Be Bay, advisor of Son Islet Agricultural Tourism Cooperative, said: "Son Islet is the most beautiful in summer because at this time the fruit trees are green and fruitful. In this summer, we choose the highlight theme for our tourism activities as “Green Season of Son Islet”, especially aimed at children. When visiting the garden, children will be shared about the origin, how to take care of the trees, and instructions on how to pick fruit. We want to create green journeys for them to both experience and learn about nature”. Accordingly, Son Islet Agricultural Tourism Cooperative currently has 5 rambutan and longan gardens to serve the summer, especially natural-focused orchards. For example, Tam Phuoc longan garden, Song Khanh rambutan garden...

An indispensable experience in the journey in Son Islet is to find the old days with exploding sticky rice and making folk cakes at Cong Minh garden house. Here, young tourists will experience making spring rolls, jackfruit leaf cakes, and making exploding sticky rice. Nguyen Ngoc Tuyet Nhu (Ninh Kieu district), said: "Today I experience many interesting activities at Son Islet and the most impressive thing for me is making explosive sticky rice. This is a summer impression I will remember forever”.

At Son Islet, the products and services are quite diverse. Besides the orchards and fish rafts, visitors also have many other interesting experiences such as watching flying of snakehead fish, eating rice with spoons of fish, unique buffalo... Each year, Son Islet will have new products and services to create more experiences for visitors. The journey of “Green Season of Son Islet” is designed appropriately so that children can have a suitable and diverse experience, meet and talk with garden owners and old farmers, and understand more about the lives of people in this land. Learning and playing experiences will help make children’s summer useful, and children will love nature more.
