Green tourism is a crucial key in sustainable tourism development. In Can Tho, garden-tourism and eco-tourism are the foundations for leveraging the diverse and effective values of green tourism.

Can Tho has an agricultural land area of 114,034 hectares, with approximately 25,000 hectares dedicated to fruit trees, specializing in 11,880 hectares. In addition, Can Tho also has a system of rivers, canals, and isles along the river system, creating conditions for the diverse development of eco-tourism and garden-tourism products.

About 16 kilometers from the city center, the 9 Hong fruit garden (My Nhon hamlet, My Khanh commune, Phong Dien district) is considered one of the long-standing eco-gardens, featuring the specialty fruits of Phong Dien: star apples, berries, and mangosteen. The main tree here is the star apple, with over 120 trees aged over 40 years. Mr. Pham Van Hoang, the owner of the 9 Hong fruit garden, shared: "My garden is about 2 hectares, designed for garden-tourism in a rustic and eco-friendly style. Visitors come here for the cool, natural environment. Therefore, I maintain the natural trees in the garden and only add some food and entertainment services with a strong garden-tourism vibe, like rowing boats, fishing...". To provide visitors with more options and the opportunity to explore fruit gardens throughout the year, the 9 Hong fruit garden also partners with surrounding orchards growing rambutans, berries, and durians.

Approximately 3 kilometers away, following the Tra Nien canal, the Tuan Tuong eco-tourism garden (Nhon Loc 1A hamlet, Phong Dien town) operates under the cooperative garden model of Hai Thin Cooperative with 10 members. The Tuan Tuong eco-tourism garden serves as the main connection point for visitors to explore and experience activities with local characteristics. Mr. Tran Van Thin, Director of Hai Thin Cooperative, stated: "Our tourism orientation focuses on eco-tourism with a community and partnership approach. Currently, we have linked with several members who have orchards of specialty fruits grown in a clean direction, aiming to introduce tourists to the unique products of the riverside eco-garden area of Phong Dien". Visitor Duong Thi My Ngoc from Hai Phong shared: "The garden spots in Phong Dien are very cool, the fruits are fresh and delicious. There's nothing like picking fruits straight from the branches and enjoying them on the spot, very sweet!".

Similarly, a prominent tourism development partnership model in Can Tho is the Son Isle Agricultural Tourism Cooperative (Binh Thuy district). Ms. Bui Thuy Lieu, owner of the Phuong My pomelo garden and member of the Son Isle Agricultural Tourism Cooperative, mentioned: "In the cooperative, each household will have their own distinctive product to contribute to collective services and products. My house has a pomelo garden for visitors to explore and enjoy pomelos. Additionally, we offer dishes like shredded chicken with pomelo, pomelo jam." The Son Isle Agricultural Tourism Cooperative offers a variety of experiences from all members who are farmers engaged in tourism. Here, members leverage the strengths of their garden plots and familiar pond banks to create products such as fish cages, flying fish, traditional cakes, fruit gardens... Visitor Bui Thi Tam from Hanoi said: "I had some interesting experiences on Son Isle and really enjoyed it. It truly embodies the rustic and garden-hopping essence, with rivers, gardens, and delicious fruits!"

Meanwhile, at major tourist spots like My Khanh Tourism Village and Cantho Eco Resort, a large portion of the area is dedicated to developing green spaces and fruit gardens. In My Khanh Tourism Village, fruit gardens cover one-third of the area with over 20 types of fruits: rambutans, rose apples, berries, star apples... Similarly, at Cantho Eco Resort, there are diverse fruit gardens: jackfruits, rambutans, Ha Chau berries...

It is evident that the green tourism models in Can Tho are quite diverse and effectively leverage the ecological and garden-tourism values. In the city's tourism development direction, it is also determined: "To promote sustainable tourism development based on green growth, linked with rural tourism development, OCOP products, and the indigenous cultural values, the strengths of each locality. Also, to implement promotional activities, tourism promotion, build a network of exemplary rural tourism destinations linked to new rural construction."

Specifically, Can Tho aims to develop and standardize tourist destinations and rural tourism products by 2025, striving to have at least one recognized tourist destination associated with the agricultural, cultural, craft village, or local ecological environment advantage; 50% of rural tourism service businesses meet the standards to serve tourists... To achieve this goal, Can Tho will focus on developing quality, diverse, and distinctive tourism products that reflect the unique characteristics of the city, with high experiential value and added value according to market trends and tailored to the needs of each target group; developing high-quality rural tourism human resources. Additionally, building and implementing pilot models for rural tourism development in the direction of green tourism, responsibility, and sustainability.
