The Netherlands seeks cooperation opportunities in Can Tho city

On the morning of May 10th, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc He, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho city, had a meeting with Mr. Daniel Coenraad Stork, Consul General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City in trade and investment cooperation between Can Tho city and the Netherlands.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs of Can Tho city, Can Tho city exported 28.96 million USD worth of goods to the Netherlands in 2021, mainly rice, fishery products, farm produce, processed agricultural products, apparel, and a number of other items. Meanwhile, its imports from the Netherlands stood at 1.07 million USD, mainly medicinal materials.

Regarding FDI investment, the Mekong city of Can Tho currently has a project with direct investment from the Netherlands named “PEPSICO Vietnam Company in Can Tho city”, operating in the Beverage industry, worth 32 million USD.

Besides, Can Tho city also receives support from Dutch organizations, such as TOC, VEL, and Blue Deal for non-governmental projects related to environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and water management.

“The year 2023 will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands. Therefore, Can Tho city looks forward to cooperating with the Dutch Embassy and Consulate General to celebrate the event”, said Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc He.

In addition, in order to strengthen the relationship between Can Tho city and the Netherlands in the near future, Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc He hopes to receive the support from Mr. Daniel Coenraad Stork as the Consul General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City in education and cultural exchange, promoting import-export activities between the two sides as well as introducing Can Tho city to Dutch business associations and investors.

Mr. Daniel Coenraad Stork, Consul General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the Netherlands is currently the 17th largest economy in the world and the second-largest agricultural exporter in the world. The Netherlands is also one of the major European investors in Vietnam. Many Dutch enterprises are surveying for investment opportunities in Can Tho in particular and Vietnam in general. Currently, there are many lecturers and international students from Can Tho city studying in the Netherlands, which is a bridge to strengthen the friendship between the two countries.

Mr. Daniel Coenraad Stork expressed his wish to promote cooperation with Vietnam, including Can Tho city, in many fields where the two sides have in common, especially agriculture, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation.
