Politburo member and Standing Vice-chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man visited Korea - Vietnam Incubator Park

On the afternoon of November 23rd, Mr. Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member, Standing Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly had a working session with the Board of Directors of Korea - Vietnam Incubator Park (KVIP).

At the reception, Mr. Ngo Anh Tin, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho city, briefed basic information about the Vietnam - Korea Technology Incubator. The KVIP project was implemented by the Korean and Vietnamese governments in 2011.

Korea - Vietnam Incubator Park (KVIP) based in Can Tho city is the result of a comprehensive cooperation program between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of South Korea. Located in Tra Noc Industrial Park 2, KVIP mainly supports innovative research and development and incubates processing technology for new agricultural and seafood products.

It started construction on November 23rd, 2013, and was inaugurated on November 14th, 2015. The total investment capital of the project is 21.13 million USD. Specifically, the Korean Government provides a non-refundable grant of 17.7 million USD to support the completion of facilities and technical infrastructure of the Incubator project on an area of 2 hectares at Tra Noc Industrial Park 2, the rest is the counterpart capital of the Government of Vietnam.

The incubator encourages eleven companies to innovate technology, supports them to transfer technology, select and adapt to advanced technologies in Vietnam and abroad; strengthens scientific and technological cooperation with domestic and foreign organizations and individuals; and strengthens Vietnam - South Korea bilateral cooperation in a number of strategic industries, such as agricultural and aquatic product processing and mechanical engineering, to soon form and develop a science and technology market and make Can Tho a science and technology center of the region.

In addition, the Incubator also cooperates with institutes and universities in the region to implement science and technology application practices. Moreover, it cooperates with domestic and foreign experts and partners to support businesses in the implementation of highly applicable scientific projects and research.

Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho city Ngo Anh Tin proposed to the Government to soon issue a document guiding, adjusting or replacing the Prime Minister's Decision No. 1193/QD-TTg, which has expired from December 31, 2020. This will give the Incubator a legal basis to operate in the new situation.

Furthermore, Mr. Pham Minh Quoc, Director of KVIP, also wished that the Government, central ministries, and branches soon agreed on the expansion of Korea - Vietnam Incubator Park, mainly in 3 sectors approved by the Prime Minister. He also called for investment to support businesses in providing additional equipment, scientific research, and human resource training and financial support policies for experts and technology incubator startups.

Speaking at the meeting, Politburo member and Standing Vice-chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the leaders and staff of KVIP as they have overcome many difficulties and maintained the operation of the Incubator in recent years. He said that this new model is suitable for the orientation of science and technology, agriculture, education, and training development for both Can Tho city and the Mekong Delta region.

Politburo member and Standing Vice-chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man said that the Central Government is very interested in the development of KVIP and will direct ministries and branches to support KVIP to overcome difficulties. He asked Can Tho city to pay close attention to KVIP in facilities and infrastructure improvement.

Politburo member and Standing Vice-chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man expressed his wish that KVIP would strengthen cooperation with the provinces in the region; invite Korean investors to Can Tho city; expand research fields and create many prestigious brands for Can Tho to develop OCOP products to the world market; further promote the initiative and creativity; strengthen the training of human resources in expertise and foreign languages; effectively apply modern technology to improve task performance; improve the potential of science and technology, turn KVIP into the hub of technology and business incubator of the Mekong Delta.
