However, with the new reciprocal tax policy from the United States, including a 46% tax rate applied to a number of product groups, many export enterprises in Can Tho are facing serious difficulties. Among them, the garment and seafood industries - the two main export groups - are strongly affected by the loss of competitive advantage in terms of prices compared to countries that are not subject to tariffs or lower taxes.
At the conference, businesses proposed that the City People's Committee recommend the Government to have practical support policies for heavily affected industries, especially garment and seafood. Businesses also want to be supported to reduce land rental fees and wastewater treatment costs; promote trade promotion, expand export markets and domestic consumption markets; at the same time, have specific policies to help businesses stabilize production, ensure jobs and income for workers.
