Attending the meeting were representatives of leaders of Local Department III (Ethnic Affairs Committee), Military Region 9, Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City, City Command, the Departments, branches of Can Tho city and more than 100 delegates who are dignitaries, monks, Achars, pagodas’ management boards, civil servants, pensioners, typical families under preferential treatment policy of Khmer ethnic people in Can Tho city.

Chol Chnam Thmay traditional New Year 2022 of Khmer ethnic people takes place on April 14th, 15th, and 16th, 2022. The meeting was held to show the concern of the Party and State, all levels and branches for Khmer ethnic people; acknowledge the contribution of Khmer compatriots, cadres, soldiers, and monks in the process of building and developing the city. At the same time, the city’s leaders also affirm the Party's guidelines, viewpoints, and State laws in the implementation of ethnic policies in all aspects of socio-economic life, including the concern for coordination in caring for monks and Khmer people to celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay New Year.

In the joyful atmosphere to welcome the new year, Mr. Pham Van Hieu - Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Council read the congratulatory letter on traditional Chol Chnam Thmay 2022 from the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City to the Most Venerable Monks, Venerables, Monks, Achars, cadres, civil servants, officials, soldiers, and Khmer people.

According to Mr. Le Trung Kien - Head of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs of Can Tho City, in the past year, thanks to the implementation of the policies of the Party and the State, the material and spiritual life of the Khmer people had been increasingly improved; the great solidarity among ethnic groups had been being raised constantly. Thereby, these results can create consensus, excitement, and confidence of the Khmer people in the leadership of the Party and State; arouse patriotic emulation movement, preserve and promote national cultural identity, encourage people to study to improve qualifications, enthusiastically work for production, develop family incomes, and firmly build great solidarity in the entire nation, contributing to socio-economic development, political stability, security, social order and safety in the city. Specifically, the city has organized to visit and give gifts to Khmer people on the occasion of Chol Chnam Thmay 2021, Sene Don Ta festival; implement support policies, provide encouragement, visit, give gifts, provide necessities for Khmer people who have been affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, etc. At the meeting, many Khmer delegates who were influential people in the city sincerely thanked the Party and State for caring and taking care of the Khmer people's development in all aspects.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Tran Viet Truong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City sent greetings to the monks, Achar, the Management Board of the pagodas, and the Khmer ethnic people, wishing that they will happily welcome Chol Chnam Thmay 2022 in solidarity, with joyful, healthy, safe and economical activities. On this occasion, the Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee praised the contributions of the Khmer ethnic group to the overall development of the city. Thereby, Mr. Tran Viet Truong hopes that in the coming time, the Most Venerable Monks, Venerables, dignitaries, officials, and Khmer ethnic people will continue to preserve and promote the good tradition and spirit of solidarity, self-reliance, self-strengthening; maintain the will to rise, actively and effectively participate in patriotic emulation movements; join forces and join hands to successfully implement the goals and tasks set out by the city, contributing to the construction of Can Tho city to become richer, more beautiful and civilized.
