Can Tho and Hungary discuss solutions to speed up the project of Can Tho Oncology Hospital

On May 25th, Mr. Öry Csaba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary in Vietnam, and the Hungarian delegation visited Can Tho city and worked with the Can Tho city’s leaders to increase the exchange of information to address obstacles and discuss solutions for the construction of the Can Tho City Oncology Hospital.

Can Tho City Oncology Hospital project has a total investment of VND1,727 billion. In specific, the ODA loan from the Government of Hungary is equivalent to over VND1,393 billion, accounting for more than 80%, with the rest being the reciprocal capital of Can Tho City. Started in October 2017, the construction has yet to be completed.

At the meeting, Mr. Öry Csaba said that both the Hungarian Government as well as the Vietnamese Government wanted the Can Tho Oncology Hospital project to be completed and put into use soon, serving the needs of medical examination and treatment for the Mekong Delta people. The Hungarian side is ready to discuss all issues and wants the two sides to find an appropriate solution and set a specific roadmap for implementation. The current problem is to find appropriate solutions, and breakthrough proposals to solve outstanding problems related to the project.

Before coming to Can Tho, Ambassador Öry Csaba and the Hungarian delegation had several working sessions with ministries, central branches, and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam on this project. Next week, the Hungarian delegation will have a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in order to request a quick settlement of administrative procedures related to the Can Tho Oncology Hospital project

Ambassador Öry Csaba suggested that in the future, instead of communicating through texts, which could easily generate unnecessary misunderstandings, the two sides would work together by meeting face-to-face or by telephone. The two sides also agree to jointly solve difficulties and problems on the basis of respecting each other's laws.

The Hungarian delegation and Can Tho city’s leaders at the meeting

On behalf of Can Tho city’s leaders, Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Hong thanked the Hungarian Government, especially Ambassador Öry Csaba for the efforts and support in building the Can Tho Oncology Hospital project. The Can Tho Oncology Hospital project represents the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Hungary. It is also an important project for Can Tho city since it will help many people in the Mekong Delta in healthcare. Therefore, the Can Tho Oncology Hospital must be carried out with technical, political, and diplomatic solutions so that the project can be completed and put into use soon.

At the reception, Ambassador Öry Csaba also said that his working term in Vietnam will end in July 2022 and that his successor will come to Vietnam in September and will continue to support Can Tho City to implement the project.

On May 16th, a Government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai had a meeting to check the progress of a number of projects in Can Tho City. Through inspecting the investment project to build the Can Tho Oncology Hospital, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai said that this project is extremely vital to the people of the Mekong Delta. The completion of Can Tho Oncology Hospital will meet the people's need for cancer examination, screening, and treatment.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai asked the Project Management Board, Can Tho City People's Committee, and relevant ministries and branches to closely coordinate and review each difficulty and problem, especially in the implementation of the bidding package related to equipment; loan agreement to soon have effective solutions to ensure publicity, transparency, reality, and law.
