On July 8, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Can Tho City held a gathering to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Vietnam Tourism Day (July 9, 1960 – July 9, 2025). The event was attended by leaders of the City’s People’s Council, People’s Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, tourism officials, and local businesses.
On July 9, Mr. Tran Van Lau, Deputy Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City, chaired a meeting to review the city’s 2025 economic growth scenarios following the administrative merger. The city’s Vice Chairpersons, leaders of departments, agencies, and relevant units, attended the meeting.
With the merger of Cần Thơ City and the former provinces of Hậu Giang and Sóc Trăng, the newly expanded Cần Thơ now holds a strategic position with a vast territory and rich natural resources, creating favorable conditions for ecotourism to thrive and for the development of distinctive tourism products that highlight local identity.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, in the first six months of 2025, the city welcomed over 4 million visitors, reaching 61.6% of the annual target. The number of overnight stays reached 2.3 million, accounting for 68.2% of the yearly plan. Total tourism revenue exceeded VND 4 trillion, achieving 62.09% of the year’s target.
On the afternoon of June 23, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a national online conference to review the first six months of 2025 and assess the outcomes of a nationwide campaign to crack down on smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property rights violations. The conference was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son, Head of the National Steering Committee 389, and leaders of ministries, agencies, and localities across the country.
On the afternoon of June 22, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a national conference reviewing the implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Development, the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the “All of Vietnam Joining Hands to Build New Rural Areas” movement, and the “For the Poor - Leaving No One Behind” campaign during the 2021-2025 period.
On June 22, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a virtual meeting of the Central Steering Committee for the Nationwide Program to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing (5th session); the State Steering Committee for National Key Projects and Projects in the Transport Sector (18th session); and the second meeting to accelerate public investment disbursement for 2025.
On June 20, the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) of Can Tho City, in coordination with relevant units, organized a forum to review the development of the startup and innovation ecosystem in Can Tho for the 2021-2025 period. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc He, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee, attended the forum.
On June 19, the Can Tho City Journalists’ Association, in collaboration with the Can Tho City Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Can Tho City Library, held the opening ceremony for the thematic exhibition titled “The Article is a Revolutionary Proclamation.” The exhibition highlights the achievements of 100 years of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press, Military Region 9 press, and Can Tho City press, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 – June 21, 2025).
